Hidden Gems
Ethiopia, Seen by Its Students
A competition of ideas for high school and university students. Find one of Ethiopia's hidden gems — a place, a face, a story that deserves to be seen — and capture it in up to three photos, with the words that carry your idea. The strongest discoveries join a collective gallery revealed at a public exhibition.
How it works
Capture
Shoot up to three photos with any smartphone — together they should reveal ONE hidden gem of Ethiopia.
Make your case
Upload it right here — verify your email with a quick code and you're in. Or send it straight to our Telegram bot.
The Reveal
A jury reviews every idea. Selected entries are unveiled together as one collective gallery at a public exhibition — and across our channels.
What could your shot be?
There is no single right answer — that is the point. Some starting points:
My Street
The corner you pass every day — what beauty does everyone else walk past?
Unsung Faces
The people who hold a place together — and are never photographed.
Living Heritage
Crafts, ceremonies, old walls still alive — treasures hiding in plain sight.
Wild & Green
Mountains, rivers, forests — the Ethiopia few get to see.
Motion & Light
Markets, roads, night lights — the country that never stops moving.
Memory & Home
What we carry with us into the future.
